October 1, 2001, LAHORE: “Mindfulness meditation is a mental training practice that teaches you to slow down racing thoughts, let go of negativity, and calm both your mind and body,” said Ali Zafar while leading a mindfulness session for students at Studio RM. The session was a first of its kind experience for participants by the Ali Zafar Foundation. The Studio had invited students from different walks of life to participate in this mindfulness exercise.
Ali Zafar is widely known as a singer, actor, and painter, yet few have seen this other view of him as a mindfulness practitioner and session moderator. This unique experience began with Ali recounting his own life journey and how he came to develop an interest in mindfulness practice as a means of improving his own responses to life’s myriad challenges. He then led the students through a number of breathing and visualization techniques to relax and open their minds to the possibilities of their own potential, leaving all negativity behind.
After the session the participants reported feeling light, relaxed and happier than before. In conclusion, Ali also shared further meditative techniques to start the day on a positive note and retain that positivity throughout.
